The event began promptly at 2:00 Saturday afternoon to the sound of Highland bagpipes as Mr. MacLeod was piped from the main level bookstore to an upper mezzanine. The event began with words of welcome from Mr. MacLeod in English, French and Gaelic followed by a brief explanation as to the relevance of the book to the larger sense of national identity. People lined up in several columns for over an hour to get the opportunity to greet Mr. MacLeod and to have their books signed. Because many guests purchased multiple copies, the book quickly sold out as the demand soon exceeded supply. As a result, arrangements were put in place to ensure that all individuals would be able to access the book in the coming days.
The Ottawa book launch follows other highly successful events in several Nova Scotia locations when Mr. MacLeod released his novel to coincide with the highly acclaimed Celtic Colours International Festival in early October.
